A town-wide vision of education for the 21st Century Proposal
The Raedan Institute is seeking to promote the first secondary school in Blackburn as. The School would be named Raedan Grammar High school (RGHS), with additional businesses and affiliations invited to become Trust Partners.
Academy / Secondary School
Our proposal will deliver an integrated approach to the opening of the two Institutes that will meet the needs of the new community of Blackburn. We propose a coordinated ‘all-through’ (ages 4 – 16) approach to learning, curriculum planning and achievement as well as ‘Academy / Secondary schools’ provision and multi-agency support. The proposal will meet and exceed the core ‘Academy / Secondary schools’ provision outlined in the School Specification, with the schools designed to provide a wide range of community facilities and be a source of community cohesion.
Our model will successfully set the tone for provision ages 0 – 19 and support the integration of other schools when they are separately promoted and established.
The Foundation model, within the Organisation
• Delivers organisational and financial benefits that create flexibility to manage the transition period efficiently, and provide wider choices and greater opportunities for children and families;
• Provides clear accountability for establishing the vision, liaising effectively with affiliations and the community;
• Builds upon the success of the institute the local, high performing and over-subscribed school with a track record of supporting school improvement in other schools;
• Draws upon the expertise of institute’s partners establishments and wider partnerships in education and business.
Ethos We have a ‘100% philosophy’ that drives our commitment to provide an education system that is genuinely inclusive, personalised and offers the opportunity for achievement and support to every child. This ethos reflects national and local government aspirations (‘Every Child Matters’) and is grounded in leading practice at the Institute.
Five ‘Values’ underpin our philosophy :
• We are committed to the pursuit of excellence • We value people • We are committed to the achievement of all • We provide a high quality learning experience • We extend the boundaries of learning
Specialism The secondary school will apply to become specialist grammar school reflecting the charities commitment to creating confident, vibrant and healthy communities.
Admissions
We will provide inclusive and non-selective education for the residents of Blackburn. The criteria will be:-
1. Children who are looked after, have an S.E.N. Statement or long-term medical needs that name the school (Abridged version – see proposal);
2. Children who live in the catchment area;
3. Children who live outside the catchment area, who attend the primary school(s) within the catchment;
4. Children who live outside the catchment area, who have a sibling at the school at the time of admission;
5. Children who live outside the catchment area but nearest the school as measured by a straight line.
