Why leave Raedan Institute a legacy?
Raedan Institute' vision is of a world in which we believe every child should have a right to education – and to achieve this vision we need your help.

Raedan Institute strives to ensure that the money received from our generous supporters goes to where it is most needed. A legacy gift will help towards providing a brighter future for so many people, young and old.

The importance of legacies

Legacies help us to reach even more communities and undertake larger projects, offering free education to those who are underachieving, education to parents to help their children is also a necessity in this day and age.

Making a will

To ensure that you provide for the people and causes that you care most about, it is vital that you have an up-to-date will. Having a will means that you have control over who benefits from your estate. Without a will the law decides how your estate is distributed; this is done according to standard rules, which means that your intentions will not be taken into account.

You’re never too young to make a will, so if you haven’t made one, don’t put it off any longer. Making a will is easy, and updating it is even easier. When you do so please consider including a legacy gift to Raedan Institute.

What kind of legacy gift can you leave Raedan Institute?

It is up to you what type of legacy gift you decide to leave Raedan Institute; we welcome any gift no matter how big or small. However, some people opt for leaving a residual gift. A residual gift means that after you have catered for your friends and family you can leave Raedan Institute a percentage of your estate.

Alternatively you could decide to leave Raedan Institute a cash gift or any gift of value. Whatever you decide is up to you; however, we do recommend that cash gifts are index linked as a gift left today will not be worth nearly as much in the future.
Text Box: How to set up a legacy
Setting up a legacy is an easy process. What you need to do is as follows:

Estimate the value of your estate and make a list of the people and causes that you would like to benefit.
You should then consult a solicitor who will organise the exact wording of your will and ensure that it is legally binding.
Or if you are amending a will you will need to add a codicil. A codicil is an addition or change to a will. Every time you want to update your will you can prepare a codicil and you can have as many of these as you like. However you will need to make sure that your codicil is legally binding (a solicitor will do this for you) and that it is kept with your will.

If you decide to leave Raedan Institute a legacy you will need to include Raedan Institute International’s full name, address and charity number details in your will:
Raedan Institute,
55 James St,
Blackburn,
Lancashire,
BB1 6BE,
UK
Registered charity number 1113547.

Other things to remember

You can also discuss with your solicitor how you can save on inheritance tax if you leave a bequest to charity.  However it is important to note that once you’ve made your will you shouldn’t just forget about it; you must remember to regularly update it when your circumstances change. For example, many people update their will when they are buying a property or following the birth of a child. It is also worth noting that when you get married all previous wills are no longer valid.
